The Solomon Method takes the confusion out of English text by indicating to the reader exactly how to sound out difficult words. It does this using a pronunciation code of 24 marks, which are printed above or below the text.

With degrees in English, Education and Psychology, Julia Solomon has spent her professional life working in fields which combine all those disciplines. She has taught at all levels and across a range of contexts. An experienced adult educator, she has conducted courses on a variety of topics and was involved in teacher education for many years. As a practising psychologist she has been able to appreciate first hand, the social and emotional effects of educational underachievement.
Dr. Solomon has created a solution to a problem she observed over several years. The growing school population displaying difficulty in the accurate reading of English. She saw the psychological consequences of this failure in disordered behaviour and attitude problems. She also saw it as unnecessary and, therefore, as a social injustice.
Feeling compelled to find a remedy, Dr. Solomon researched, field tested and refined her own analytic/phonic reading method for many years in her private clinic in Perth, Western Australia. In most cases she saw an instant change in pupils' confidence in their ability to read whole books. This success merely proved to her that 98 percent of the pupils identified as having potential or actual reading problems were in reality not problems. She had given pupils a tool to discover and improve the reading ability they already possessed. Pupils previously convinced about their rating as reading failures were now "reading for sure!".
Concluding that others could also learn to apply her method with the same success, Dr. Solomon produced Reading for Sure as a structured reading method and training programme. This manual is a step by step guide for those who wish to become accredited in its use.
