ON-LINE training with WLI in the Solomon Method

The ten unit training course in The Solomon Method is available on line. On-line training is designed for those participants who are unable,  for geographical or for other reasons,  to attend face to face lectures or are unable to carry out practice requirements in a Reading for Sure™ centre.

For those wishing to be Nationally Accredited, the course work and assessment process will be in accordance with the requirements of face to face training.

An applicant who is accepted for training online in The Solomon Method is expected to satisfy all the competence criteria which apply to those enrolled in ‘on site’ training.

Procedures for training

After attending an introductory seminar,  either face to face or on-line, the participant will have the opportunity to submit questions and /or attend an on-line forum as an aid to determining whether to train as a provider of The Solomon Method. The training brochure and the handbook are available on request.

The prerequisites for successful completion of the on-line training include the Applicant’s evidence of the availability of facilities for: 

  1. delivering the program to pupils who are assessed as capable of benefiting from any of The Solomon Method programs.
  2. providing video clips showing facilities available for delivering the programs to individuals and  to groups  at the level of: preschool,  primary school,  secondary school and adults
  3. providing video clip segments of the trainee’s delivery with a pupil of the programmed tasks set out in the course assessment booklet.
  4. attendance at online or face to face forum for discussion of points raised in the practice video clips.
  5. maintaining the reliability and availability essential for continuity in teaching.

If the pre-requisites for either pathway to accreditation are provided for in accordance with the above,  followed by a decision to train in The Solomon Method, application can be made for:

  1. Enrolment in the Nationally Accredited Course for Certificate 1V [five units] or Diploma in Literacy Education [ten units]. (Refer to separate brochure for details). This course is delivered only by World Literacy International but the assessment is conducted externally and requires an additional fee on completion of the course. The practicum for this course is expected to be flexible under variable appropriate supervision.
  2. Enrolment for accreditation with World Literacy International to become an accredited provider/licensee of The Solomon Method – at the level of :               
  • Preliminary skills (Units 1 and 2)
  • Reading for Sure™ program.(units 1-5)
  • The Comprehensive Literacy Model (units 1-10)

 Supervised practice for ‘face to face’ trainees takes place on site in a Reading for Sure™ Centre.  On–line candidates follow the guidelines listed above. Courses usually offer a flexible timetable for completion, but should not take longer than twelve months. (Details on request).

To enrol,  the applicant will complete:

  • the Application and Training Agreement form and
  • the confidentiality agreement form and submit them with the
  •  Working with Children check (or equivalent) to the WLI office.

Training Costs

The cost for undertaking training in The Solomon Method is $400 per unit including support and supervision by WLI staff.  To become qualified as a Nationally Accredited holder of Certificate 1V or Diploma in Literacy Education  the additional cost of $1000 applies for assessment by a Registered Training Organisation,  on completion of the course.

Discounts are granted for up-front payments for the full course.

On-line candidates are expected to subscribe to the Access-Reading for Sure facility for assistance in the practice assignments at an agreed rate. This will also be offered as an option to ‘face to face’ trainees.

Negotiable payment plans are available to selected applicants.

Access support

All deliverers and trainees of the Solomon Method may apply to become members of the on-line ‘Reading for Sure-Help Desk’ support facility.

Membership will enable the user of the Solomon Method to submit a question or raise an issue or a problem which requires answers or discussion with WLI accredited staff.
