Why should you become a provider of these Nationally Accredited
courses?
We provide services for three types of people:
- You might have a child (or an adult) who is finding reading difficult
or you may have a child who needs more challenge in the early years and
you wish to enrol him/her in a program. You will find a list of our providers
on the Providers page.
- You may wish to teach your own child or you may be too far away from
a current provider. You can become a Home Teaching Provider (not for
commercial users). You can send for a child assessment form if you are
unable to bring the child to an assessment session in Noranda. More information
is on the How to Start page.
- You may wish to teach reading skills to children in your area and operate
your own "Literacy Education" business. You may do this under license
as a Provider of the Solomon Method.
Briefly, the steps to follow are:
- Register with World Literacy International for the seminar (either
online or face to face).
- Apply for enrolment into the training program (as a home provider
or licensed provider) to deliver
- Step Ahead! - preliminary literacy skills for children from 3
years
- the first phonics book - Fat Cat Sam
- Reading for Sure for children who might be at risk of reading
failure or reading delay, or for pupils who need to read aloud
with accurate English pronunciation.
- On acceptance of your enrolment and upon payment of the fees, you
will be issued with a password to access the online training program
or you will be provided with the schedule for workshops in Perth.
- A set of teaching materials will be prepared for you.
It is important to understand that the standard teaching materials,
unique to our system, are provided only to those enrolled in
the World Literacy International training program. This applies equally
to Home Providers and Licensed Providers. Distance learners will receive
materials by post.
In order to teach reading effectively, it is necessary
to first understand the method and the materials. This is the reason
why the training program will enable you to teach reading skills to a
wide range of learners.
What does it involve?
As a Home Provider, you will only complete the sections you need for
the level you need. You will be required to show some evidence that you
are completing the tasks satisfactorily. This is normally a video.
Licensed Providers will be required to complete a range of tasks and
to have several pupils at different levels. A number of videos will be
required for assessment purposes. We find that videos are the easiest
way to see that you are using the materials correctly and that you are
catering to the individual needs of your pupils.
The
individual support for teachers of the Solomon Method does not stop once
you've completed your training. If you have any questions about
one of your pupils, you may join an online forum or email Dr Solomon
directly.
Reading for Sure is designed for one-to-one tuition
to cater for individual needs.
