Our courses in The Solomon Method (including “Reading for Sure™” and “Stepping Ahead”) are nationally accredited and listed on the National Training Information Service (NTIS) for delivery by a registered training organisation as Certificate 1V or Diploma in Literacy Education.
A Statement of Attainment or its equivalent is awarded to participants who successfully complete Units 1 and 2. This qualifies them to deliver Stepping Ahead which contains the content for teaching preliminary literacy skills, to develop the processes required before reading regular text at school grade level.
An application to train in The Solomon Method should be preceded by participation in an introductory information seminar which it is possible to attend in person or on-line. The introductory seminar provides the opportunity to clarify the information received and to ask questions regarding individual situations.
The Seminar will address the following issues;

If you have decided that you wish to become a Solomon Method provider, the next steps are:
An application is made to WLI to become accredited in The Solomon Method as a
When the training application with the necessary documents is completed and accepted, the candidate registers as a trainee. Upon payment of the training fee a password is issued which will provide access to on-line training information. It will also make the teaching materials accessible for each Unit in which the participant is enrolled. A trainee may elect to attend the Training Workshop for each Unit or to complete the training requirements on-line.
Please send an email to ask for the application forms (see the contact page).
The on-line training requires that the participant has the following equipment.
To become a licensed Home Teaching Provider with a pupil who can read English but is struggling with pronunciation, fluency or meaning, it will be possible to disregard Units 1 and 2 and begin with Unit 3, the Reading Unit. Approval to begin at that point will be given if satisfactory evidence is provided of the pupil’s reading level in the form of reports and/or video clips.
The training programme will be available in the form of workshops and practice opportunities within the following frame work.
Assessment for accreditation and licensing is based on the participant’s knowledge and understanding of the theory and principles that are basic to The Solomon Method. This will be assessed by:
a) the interactive verbal and written responses to the information that is given in discussions and in written material during and between the workshops.
b) the standard of practical application of the method in accordance with the course practice assignments as demonstrated in workplace situations or on audio-visual records.
These are set up for participants on a face to face basis where participants attend according to a given timetable, usually three hours duration conducted weekly. Currently the workshop timetable and venue are determined by the number of participants and their availability.
The trainee/participant may attend a centre conducted by a licensed provider by mutual agreement in order to gain practice in applying The Solomon Method. This will provide the opportunity for supervised application of those aspects of the program which have been studied in the workshops. The practical competence of the trainee will be assessed through supervision reports and by the completion of proforma for self assessment and standardised tasks, using the materials and concepts unique to this teaching model.
Candidates who are unable or who may choose not to attend a workshop at an accessible venue may complete the training course theoretical components by participating in an on-line workshop. These will be scheduled on a regular timetable and will enable the candidates to complete the reading and written work in their own time.
Candidates in the training program who are unable to attend a centre for supervised application of the Solomon Method will need to locate and work with suitable students in order to complete the practice requirements. For assessment of competence, the candidate will record their practical work on an audio-visual system, compatible with the Trainer’s system, which demonstrates their application of the tasks set out for each Unit of Competence.
Before deciding to register for training as a provider of The Solomon Method, the applicant may wish to be given a more personalized explanation of the concepts and techniques used for training in The Solomon Method.
Arrangements can be made for an agent of WLI to conduct a conference by appointment with an individual or with organization members in response to a request for more information on how the training and its technology will operate most effectively in the individual case. The agent will advise on the installation and maintenance of the necessary facilities to ensure the smooth operation of the on-line system for training to teach The Solomon Method. A consulting fee will be applicable for an agent’s services.
On successful completion of the training, the participant may apply to WLI for a license to conduct a private centre to deliver the Solomon Method. The license application may also be made by a school or institution. On application for a license, the schedule of fees for each type of license will be supplied.
